Should You Sell the Family Home?

“A house is built of walls and beams;
a home is built of love and dreams.”

When you bought this house, you may have thought your biggest challenge would be coping with Empty Nest Syndrome when the kids left for college.  Now you are facing divorce and have to decide whether or not to sell the house, who will live in it if you keep it and, if you move, where you’ll go next.  When you are emotionally attached, this is more than just a house, it’s a home.

Choosing the Right Team
The good news is that with the right divorce team, you can make sound financial decisions that will help you make a new home from whatever house or apartment you might settle in next, without breaking the bank.  If you choose to stay in the marital home, your divorce team will help you ensure that it is valued correctly, mortgaged well and that you don’t end up house rich and cash poor.

“You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” ~ C.S. Lewis

How Much Is Your House Really Worth?
Remember that just because your house has emotional sentiment to you, doesn’t mean it will hold financial value for someone else.  Sometimes we might have royal taste but a commoner’s budget.  The important thing is to clearly know your options and focus on doing what’s best for you and your family’s future.

“Don’t dwell on what went wrong.  Instead, focus on what to do next.  Spend your energies on moving forward toward finding the answer.” ~ Denis Waitley
